Christmas with Savannah

When I posted my snow shots, I realized I hadn't posted my last photo shoot with little Miss Savannah. She was visiting at Christmas and kept me moving! We never ended up having a "real" photo session; dressing up for the occasion and trying to create moments. She has more energy than me, and one day, as the visit was dwindling down, I just got out my camera and followed her around. These are some of the shots I like best. I think her mom might have preferred that we got her hair combed better and maybe dressed her up, but these capture the true essence of her lively spirit. In case you're wondering what is in her hand, she quite enjoyed Twizzlers, and was running around carrying one and chewing on it.

So, you may have heard of the winter the DC region has been experiencing. I'll admit, generally, we don't do well with snow. This year we've had more snow than ever recorded in a winter, since records have been kept. I don't know how people without a snowblower have functioned. As a bonus, we've also had winds that have created drifts. Lucky for me, I have a long lens and have been able to get some pretty shots (read: haven't had to actually venture into said snow to get the shots). Most were taken through the open window, though the drifts on the surface were taken from the sidewalk. Morning and sunset are preferred times. It is a pain, but it is beautiful (the snow).

JV Football Project 2009

This year I decided to make a gift for our wonderful JV coaches at River Hill. I created a team poster collage for them. It came out pretty good, if I do say so.

Update

I haven't posted in over 3 months and you may be wondering why. I spent the last quarter of 2009 slowing shutting down Hollyhocks Photography LLC. I officially closed the business on 12/31/09. I will still be shooting for personal enjoyment, but not for hire. I have several excellent photographer friends that I can recommend to you, if you need wonderful service. Check out my favorite links for easy reference: Hostetler Photo specializes in Senior photography and portraits. Laura Ashbrook specializes in weddings, but also does portrait photography. Three Blondes specialilzes in wedding photography. I will be posting personal projects, including an update on Savannah, very soon.

Amazing Football Feats Continue

Though it was raining and slick out, there were still some pretty incredible moves to be caught at Friday's game between River Hill and Howard High. Here, number 4 continues to go the distance.

Miss Savannah Turns 1!

Amazingly, an entire year has passed since the arrival of Miss Savannah into the world! I was able to spend some time with her on her birthday weekend this month. These are a few of my favorite shots of the visit:

Since I won't be there to see her on Halloween, we had a little preview of Little Miss Lady Bug. She does indeed look as cute as a bug!

This is just a beautiful serene shot, with a little tongue poking out.

This is a great close-up of her mouth - she now has 3 teeth, two of which are visible here. Can you just tell how soft that skin is?

This one has a personal pull to it. This Tigger outfit a gift to Savannah's uncle Mark when he was a baby and it's been passed down. He looked just as adorable it in as well.

I love the fun side she is showing here. It was a fun filled weekend and she was a delight to spend time with. I noticed a marked improvement in willingness to look at the camera since her 9 month shoot.

I'm Back

I didn't realize how long it's been since last I posted on the blog. I haven't been taking many pictures, which is sad. Soon I will be posting more of Savannah (for those of you who follow that darling girl) and there will be some wedding images in the near future too. But, football has returned and I got three fantastic shots last Friday at the River Hill/Long Reach game. I was fortunate to be in the right spot at the right time when one of our star players made a couple difficult catches.
